Cricket in Luxembourg:
Achievement, enjoyment, community
Luxembourg Cricket Federation’s goals
Maximise the number women, men, boys and girls playing cricket in Luxembourg, backed by well-trained match officials and a wide supporter base, thus raising the profile of the game.
We do this because:
We want cricketing outlets for ourselves and future generations
Cricket is an important part of social and community life of Luxembourg
Because we love the game and want it to grow.
Early cricket in Luxembourg
The first cricket match in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg took place in 1973, with the first club (the Optimists Cricket Club) formed in 1976. After 15 years of playing friendly matches with international and local teams, the Optimists was a founding member of the Belgian Cricket Federation league in 1991. It has since won BCF competitions on numerous occasions.
Luxembourg Cricket Federation
The Luxembourg Cricket Federation was formed in 1994 to work to grow the game and to represent the sport with national and international organisations. We became a member of the ICC in 1998, we are affiliated to the national sports and Olympic committee (COSL), and we have regular contacts with representatives of the Luxembourg government, civil service, and local authorities.
International competition
A Luxembourg team has participated in each of the ICC’s European international tournaments for which we have been eligible, starting in 2003. See more about future and recent events and 2003-2019 history.
Domestic competitions
Luxembourg Cricket has organised a men’s domestic outdoor league since 1999, with a men’s indoor tournament held every winter since 2004 and the first women’s tournament held in 2021.
The Maidens CC was one of our founder clubs, and Trois Frontières CC was a founder member of the Belgian Cricket Federation women’s league in 2021. Our Women’s Cricket Academy operates throughout the year.
Junior development programme
Training for juniors (aged 5 to 18) has taken place outdoor and indoor since the mid 2000s. The highlight is an intensive week-long Summer Academy. We have a pool of level 1 and 2 coaches to run the programme. For games, we have a domestic programme, we travel internationally, and we have a development team to integrate young players into adult cricket.
Umpiring and scoring
We have an on-going programme to train and support umpires and scorers.
